-WHY INCLUSIVITY COUNSELING-
Why Inclusivity Counseling?
You are believed. You are beautiful. You are brave. I stand beside you.
Your identity is not a footnote, addendum or afterthought added to satisfy an entities stated “commitment to diversity”. Your identity is not a few words and phrases rhetorically added to verbage on signage to appear competent and liberal. Your identity is not something to be “tolerated”, “welcomed” or “invited” only to not be well-treated.
Your identities are your ancestral shields that both attract the racist gaze and withstand it at the same time. Your identities are rights of passage and cause for celebration. Your identities are your strength, your humanhood, your power. Your identities, your experiences, your ancestries make you an exquisite mosaic- chipped, rugged, broken, picked up, chosen, bonded back together by truth and stronger in the places that were once weak -flip on your light inside and shine!
Because racism, oppression and discrimination are real, I work with clients from a liberatory consciousness perspective. I believe our skin has everything to do with how we are treated and that race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, gender identity, disability status, and age are markers used to enact harm in many covert ways.
My work with clients is geared to assist individuals who, in their day to day lives, feel misunderstood, alienated or in other ways feel pressured to ascribe to interpersonal, social, familial or professional "norms" that are in contradiction to their unique personal needs or desires. It is important to honor each person's individual truth in order to support them in moving forward in an authentic and long-lasting way. Through supported exploration of their past experiences my clients discover how their unique personal history, not only informs how they feel today, but also what they need to change in order to feel better tomorrow.
